Donald Trump’s imprisonment of innocent immigrants is based on his lies that the are threats to Americans because it’s the only thing that continues to attract voters for him. Certainly his chaotic up-and- down tariffs didn’t. Even some Republicans are breaking rank about them. Nor did his false rhetoric on healthcare. So Trump will continue his rants that immigrants are rapists, murders, sex-traffickers and are destroying our economy because it’s working for him.

The truth is that the incidence of crime among immigrants is substantially below that of native-born Americans. And they’re good for our economy. They prevent labor shortages, slow wage inflation, increase economic growth, and create jobs. Sadly, Trump stoked and exploited your fears to get your votes. Tragically, you bought it, sending thousands of innocent immigrants to the most brutal prison in the Western Hemisphere.

Hostile immigration policies and false rhetoric from Trump’s first administration stifled immigration, which had already been falling since 1995. In March of 2020, Trump stopped hundreds of thousands of migrants from entering from Mexico by falsely claiming that “tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border.” Before the pandemic, aggressive enforcement brought immigration from Mexico to a halt.

The first Trump administration issued over 400 executive actions to reduce immigration. Those actions, combined with his denigration of immigrants, resulted in the lowest inflow of immigrants from Mexico (around 200,000) on record since 1960. In the previous decade, about 1 million immigrants a year came to the U.S. Under Trump’s presidency, that number dropped to around 250,000. By the end of 2021, the net immigration to the U.S. hit its lowest level in decades.

The result was zero growth in working-age immigrants, down from an average of 660,000 in the preceding years. Labor shortages were still worsening when the economy began to recover from the pandemic in 2021. As the need for jobs rose, employers found it harder to fill them due to the scarcity of immigrants. Sectors that employ the most foreign workers had significantly higher rates of job vacancies in 2021.

By the end of 2021, there were about 2 million fewer working-age immigrants in the U.S. to fill those vacancies. About a million of them would have been college-educated and could have taken high-skilled jobs that stimulate innovation, boost productivity and grow the economy. High-skilled jobs also have a multiplier effect, generating up to 2.5 additional jobs in their local economies for each employed high-skilled worker. Immigrants are also three times more likely than U.S-born workers to start their own businesses. Two million fewer immigrants translate into fewer new businesses and more than 200,000 fewer jobs.

Immigrants play a significant role in sustaining economic dynamism. Highly skilled and entrepreneurial immigrants in science and technology start new businesses and create new jobs at high rates. Between 2010-2019, for example, foreign-born workers accounted for up to one quarter of employment growth and three-quarters of new businesses across 248 U.S. metro areas.

Immigrants have responded more positively to labor demand than low-skilled native-born Americans, which helps ease labor shortages. Studies show that U.S. cities with higher populations of Mexican-born immigrants suffered 50 percent smaller labor shocks than other metro areas

More Trump BS: While it’s true that immigrants increase some federal spending, most immigrants are net contributors to the national balance sheet because they pay more in taxes than they claim in benefits: which is necessary to keep Medicare and Social Security solvent.

Cutting immigration has tangible health consequences for seniors. Immigrants supply a large share of the growing demand for healthcare workers for the elderly. One in five nurses and one in four health aides is an immigrant. Think of where we would have been without them when COVID 19 overran our hospitals

Contrary to another Trump claim — immigrants don’t steal American jobs. In fact, they create more jobs than they take.

Given the many benefits of accepting more immigrants, one still wonders why Democrats don’t challenge Republican rhetoric on immigration more aggressively. Framing a compelling pro-immigration policy and clear and convincing messaging about its benefits could enable Democrats to seize the issue from Republicans and convince voters that more immigration, not less, is in their best interest.

Perhaps seeing and hearing Trump being debunked on his false claims would help, so I offer these videos to entertain and inform you. https://chaospolicy.com/?s=immigration, https://chaospolicy.com/trumps-press-conference-on-immigration-policies-part-2/, and https://chaospolicy.com/trumps-press-conference-part-3/

Trump knows that his bid for the Supreme Court to let him scrap the Constitution’s right to birthright citizenship is a loser. But it’s his Trojan Horse to get the Court to limit the scope of preliminary injunctions to the parties to the litigation instead of covering every person and company in the country, as they do now.

Nationwide injunctions have stifled many of Trump’s illegal efforts through Executor Orders, such as drastically paring the government workforce, drastically cutting financial assistance for domestic programs, freezing foreign aid, and ending diversity programs. If Trump gets his way, nation-wide injunctions that block unconstitutional executive orders will have to wait until they are decided by the Supreme Court to determine if they’re enforceable nation-wide.

In the meantime, Trump can continue to enforce unconstitutional executive orders for as long as it takes to get a Supreme Court decision. For example, if a lower court enjoins Trump from enforcing an order to jail journalists who oppose him as a violation of the 1st Amendment, the case must be decided by the Supreme Court before we know if the order can apply nation-wide.

Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has a track record of delaying decisions to protect Trump. For example, the Court’s conservative majority delayed his criminal trials until after the 2024 election. By contrast, it took the Court just 16 days to decide Nixon wasn’t immune from prosecution and one day to make Republican George W. Bush President in his legal contest with Al Gore.

The results of limiting the scope of injunctions, as Trump is asking the Supreme Court to do, seems unworkable. First, it will give Trump the choice of where to and, more importantly, where not to enforce his unconstitutional executive orders. That will open the door to requiring donations to his campaign to accommodate the interests of different parties, such as universities with large international student bodies, who pay higher tuitions than U.S. citizens.

Immigrants, especially pregnant immigrants, will rush to locations where Trump hasn’t challenged preliminary injunctions or where courts have issued injunctions that apply only to litigants or in their districts. For instance, a group of blue states challenging Trump’s birthright citizenship order win an injunction blocking the order in their states while it remains in place in other states.

There’s reason to worry, however, that the Supreme Court’s favoring of Trump will continue. Although it recently blocked Trump from using the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged gang members to a notorious Salvadoran prison without due process, it chose not to decide whether the 1798 law was applicable.

The 1798 Alien Enemies Act allows the president to skip the usual immigration court process to detain and deport anyone age 14 or older from a “hostile nation or government” when “there is a declared war” or when a “foreign nation” threatens “invasion or predatory incursion” against the United States. The law has been used only three times: during the War of 1812 and World Wars I and II – each time satisfying the law’s requirement that a war had been declared.

Trump bizarrely maintains that we are being invaded by Nicaraguan gangs. The Supreme Court could have taken judicial notice (a legal principle that allows a court to acknowledge a fact without requiring proof) of the falsity of Trump’s claim. Had the Justices held that the1798 law was inapplicable, all Trump’s offensive orders would be declared unconstitutional across the entire country.

Also, it seems that chaos is acceptable to Justices Alito, Thomas and Gorsuch when it benefits Donald Trump. For example, the Supreme Court unanimously put Trump back on the Colorado ballot holding that different ballots in different states at different times could nullify the votes of millions and change the results of elections. The Court unanimously held, “Nothing in the Constitution requires that we endure such chaos.”

Yet Thomas, Alito and Gorsuch seem to be willing to tolerate the chaos that attends limited injunctions. They’ve gone public about their preference to limit nationwide injunctions to litigants and to the judges districts even though it would result in chaos. They joined a Gorsuch opinion, warning that “lower courts would be wise to heed that retiring the universal injunction … will lead federal courts to become a little truer to the historic limits of their office, and promote more thoughtful rulings.”

There’s more reason to worry. The Supreme Court let the Trump administration remove, pending appeal, protections from nearly 350,000 Venezuelan immigrants who had been allowed to remain in the United States without risk of deportation under an Obama program. The decision affects the many Venezuelans currently living in the United States legally under the Biden program.

Sadly, the Supreme Court has, for now, evaded its obligation to defend the Constitution’s core mandate of three co-equal, independent branches of government. It could allow courts to hold Trump and his enablers in contempt for violating their orders and prosecute them with an attorney outside the Execute branch.

The post TRUMP’S TROJAN HORSE TO DO AWAY WITH NATION-WIDE INJUCTIONS? first appeared on Inside The Political Chaos.

Donald Trump has quickly transformed our democracy into a dictatorship, where the opposition and criticism are stifled and punished. Sadly, our Democratic leaders, our most influential citizens, our corporate chieftains, and the complicity of spineless Republicans are standing on the sidelines, hoping that someone more aggressive, courageous and persuasive will take the lead. Even the Supreme Court’s majority has done its share of Trump-coddling.

Perhaps the most pernicious example is the Senate Republicans’ confirmation of the most unqualified, obsequious and dangerous cabinet in our history due to fear of being challenged by a primary candidate backed by Trump and financed by Elon Musk.

To be clear, we no longer live a democracy where the fear of retribution precludes criticism of and opposition to our president and his enablers.

Trump has launched criminal investigations into:

The prior head of Cybersecurity who publicly contradicted his false claims of election fraud,

The former head a Department of Homeland Security who wrote an opinion criticizing the president,

Letitia James, the attorney general of New York, who filed a lawsuit against him,

The fund-raising practices of the Democrats’ main donor platform, inhibiting contributions for fear of tax audits and penalties.

The fund-raising practices by PBS and NPR to justify funding cuts, and

60 universities, threatening them with severe penalties if they don’t eliminate DEI from their curriculum.

Trump also:

Illegally suspended hundreds of millions of dollars in funding to, Brown, Columbia, Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania to pressure them into eliminating their DEI programs,

asked the I.R.S. to revoke Harvard’s tax-exempt status and its eligibility to host foreign students if they don’t terminate DEI practices.

Trump used federal dollars and a stable of DOJ lawyers to bring defamation suits against eleven media companies as he seeks to eliminate legal obstacles to winning his cases.

Republican politicians faced threats of violence against those who voted for Trump’s impeachment and conviction for the Jan. 6 assaults and for opposing Pete Hegseth’s confirmation as Secretary of Defense.

Trump also has prohibited the government from hiring law firms perceived to be friendly to the Democrats, threatened to cancel their clients’ government contracts, and suspended their security clearances, precluding them from many government cases. Clients that challenge the Trump administration have a hard time finding legal representation. And reputable firms have avoided legal battles with the government to avoid Trump’s wrath.

If Republican lawmakers obeyed their conscience, they would have already impeached, convicted and removed Trump. But impeachment won’t happen until Republicans fear being replaced by a primary challenger who’s not obedient to Trump, or by a Democrat in a national election.

The Supreme Court could hasten his departure or at least stop his dictatorial practices by expediting the ability of lower courts to sanction Trump and his enablers, including by incarcerating them. Instead, the Court’s majority has prolonged the process.

A District Court had ordered the Trump administration to “facilitate and effectuate” the return of Abrego Garcia to the United States. On appeal, the Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration only “to facilitate” Garcia’s return and omitted the word “effectuate.” It also held that the meaning of “effectuate” in the District Courts opinion was unclear and “may exceed its authority,” and warned the District Court to give “due regard for the deference owed to the Executive Branch in the conduct of foreign affairs.” The Supreme Court then delayed sanctioning Trump and other violators by remanding the case to the District Court to clarify what it meant by “effectuate.” Trump, of course, seized on the Supreme Court’s language, arguing that it required the District Court “to respect the president’s authority … to manage foreign policy,” thumbing his nose at the entire Judiciary.

Had the Supreme Court just affirmed the District Court’s decision without its gratuitous language, lower courts that issued the orders Trump defied would have been free to impose sanctions, including incarceration, of the violators.

The Supreme Court previously held that the power to compel compliance by holding a defendant in contempt is backstopped by the ability to jail people who defy court orders.

The Supreme Court has also unanimously held that courts possess the authority to appoint a private attorney outside the Executive branch to prosecute civil contempt if the Executive branch refuses to do so, and that “the ability to punish disobedience of judicial orders” is “essential to ensuring that the Judiciary has a means to enforce its own authority without complete dependence on other branches.” Moreover, thepresident cannot pardon a party held in civil contempt, and immunity only applies to criminal conduct, and not to civil contempt.

Finally, jailed members of the administration can end their incarceration by complying with courts’ orders, including by resignation.

It takes courage to stand up the Trump’s threats of retribution, but there can’t be a more compelling motivation than to restore our lost democracy. As Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski put it, “We are all afraid. It’s quite a statement. But we are in a time and a place where I certainly have not been before.”

The post WAITING FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO TAKE THE LEAD first appeared on Inside The Political Chaos.

The U.S. and China agreed to slash tariffs for 90 days. Don’t exhale yet. China still is a clear favorite to win its trade war with the U.S. Its leader, Xi, is fully aware that Trump is under pressure to mollify the global financial panic he created with his tariffs, evidenced by his desperate need for press coverage of every accomplishment and, more revealing, of fictional accomplishments. Xi is ready to exploit his Achilles.

The European Union has added to the pressure. It threatened to target $107 billion of U.S. goods with higher retaliatory tariffs and start a World Trade Organization challenge to Trump’s tariffs, including his duties on European cars and car parts. The EU has already approved tariffs on $23 billion worth of American goods in retaliation to Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs.

Also, Trump’s needs to boost his lowest approval ratings on the economy —43% approval and 55% disapproval — since he took office. Although blue-collar workers remain positive, their disapproval numbers have shot up by 14% since his first term. And 54% of independents see the economy getting worse. Even in safe harbor Texas, 39% strongly disapprove of the Trump’s performance as President.

These results reflect the pressure on him to convince more than his base that his economic policies will work overtime.

Trump officials have predicted for weeks that the first trade deals to result from his tariff strategy would likely come from India, Japan and perhaps South Korea, but the financial markets are still holding their breath.

And there is limited reason to cheer about the trade agreement Trump announced with the UK. Britain was already in the lowest group for the “Liberation Day” across-the-board tariffs, already facing a 10% tariff rate. And negotiators representing both countries ignored long-standing disputes such as a digital-services tax that Britain levies on tech giants and its food-standards that block “chlorinated chicken” and the like from entering the country.

Less than one-third of U.K. respondents and 44% of Americans believed Trump would abide by the U.K. deal. A 42% plurality of British respondents said China would be a more reliable trading partner than the United States.

GOP China hawks told the country that the Chinese leadership would be desperate to negotiate a trade deal to avoid economic pain that could threaten their hold on power. They were wrong. Some mistakenly believed Treasury Secretary Bessent’s false rhetoric that China is suffering from a “severe recession, if not depression.” So, Xi’s caustic denial of Trump’s claim that he was in trade talks with China revealed the Trump administration’s negotiating and guile.

Moreover, Beijing had prepared for the trade war. It pushed businesses to strengthen supply chains and cultivate overseas markets, implemented monetary measures to support small businesses and boosted consumer demand to mitigate any reduction in exports. China has also discouraged companies from complying with U.S. sanctions by making it Illegal to do so. Xi’s stunning ability to organize and prepare his country compared to Trump’s impulsive and thoughtless decisions explain China’s advantage.

Although U.S. and Chinese officials (without Xi) will meet in Switzerland later this week, the any real progress is impaired by the lack of trust in Trump. They recall how he launched a trade war following a friendly and productive meeting in Beijing in 2017.

Shortly after Trump unfurled his April 2 tariff barrage, China began a marketing offensive with other countries to proove itself as a better trading partner. He visited several Asian countries to discuss economic partnerships and made overtures about expanding trade ties with the European Union.

Trump has repeatedly bragged about his negotiating skills, telling America he’s “the best deal maker.” As for his tariffs, he’s claimed that world leaders are “kissing my ass to negotiate and pleading ‘I will do anything, sir.’” Where are the deals? What has he accomplished? The answer: Trump’s gifted many of our trading relationships to China, where negotiating skills were most needed.

The post TRUMP CAN’T WIN A TRADE WAR WITH CHINA first appeared on Inside The Political Chaos.

Start with Trump’s tariffs that will lead to inflation that Trump will mismanage into a depression. We came close during the 2008 Great Recession, but it took the expertise and experience of the Bush and Obama cabinets to save us. Trump’s pathetically unqualified cabinet of sycophants wouldn’t have a clue.

Trump checks all the boxes mental health professionals use to diagnose a sociopath. They are irrational, compulsive and motivated by anger at events unrelated to the issue at hand. They are incapable of empathy or caring about others, they act impulsively without considering the consequences, and can’t experience guilt or remorse. As a result, they can’t relate to or understand the concerns of others. So, they’re incapable of considering them in making decisions. Trump is the poster-man for sociopaths. He’s dangerous and must be removed.

His tariffs are a repeat of 2017 when he launched his steel tariffs upon becoming “unglued” over Hope Hicks’ testimony about Russia’s election interference and when his chief of staff dropped his son-in-law’s security clearance. There was no meaningful research or explanations, no strategy to alert foreign trade partners or Congress, and no vetted communication plan. No one at the State, Treasury or Defense Departments were notified that tariffs were about to be announced.

Another example of compulsive and dangerous decision-making: After becoming frustrated over his staff’s inability to reach a consensus on pardoning January 6 attackers, he threw up his hands and said, “”F–k it, Release ’em all,” and he released into the streets dozens of prisoners with prior convictions or pending charges for crimes of rape, sexual abuse of a minor, manslaughter, child pornography, drug trafficking.

Many of the catastrophes caused by Trump are the fault of Republicans for confirming the most unqualified and dangerous cabinet of sycophants in our history. So it’s their responsibility to impeach him, and they have plenty of grounds.

Take Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Trump wanted to use the country’s nuclear arsenal during the last month of his last presidency. It took General Mark Milley to stop him. There’s no Milley now, only the sex-offending, alcoholic, unqualified Fox News co-host confirmed by Republican Senators.

Senate Republicans also risked countless deaths from another epidemic or pandemic by confirming anti-vaxxer RFK Jr. as head of the Department of Health who exaggerates — even invents — the side effects of proven vaccines such as polio, measles and Covid vaccines.

Then there’s Tulsi Gabbard confirmed as head of all our national intelligence agencies. She’s consistently shown more loyalty to Russia than to America. She sided with Russian-backed Syrian President Assad whom Putin helped in the slaughter of half a million Syrians. When Russia invaded Ukraine, Gabbard claimed, “This war and suffering could have easily been avoided if Biden had acknowledged Russia’s legitimate security concerns.” In almost every foreign conflict with Russia, Gabbard backed Moscow

Gabbard will help Trump weaken America’s status as a superpower in order to join Putin and Xi in their efforts to supplant the US-dominated world order with one that gives them the leverage to write the rules and bully other countries, including the United States? Trump’s efforts include:

Pausing military aid and intelligence to Ukraine that helped it block incoming missiles and monitor invading forces. He also terminated U.S. assistance that allows Ukrainian strikes into Russia.

Encouraging Putin to invade NATO members.

Prohibiting Ukraine from joining NATO and requiring its demilitarization and new elections to install a Putin-puppet government.

Agreeing that the security and protection of Europe will be funded by and be the responsibility of Europe and not the US.

Diminishing America’s global influence and military might, including installing military bases, by suspending foreign aid throughout the world.

As a result, our allies no longer provide America with intelligence that prevents international aggression against us such as cyber-attacks, particularly after Trump exposed many of America’s operatives who monitor adversaries like Russia and China.

By impeaching Trump, Republicans can undo the damage they’ve wreaked on America. If they don’t, they’ll be responsible for the winds that will blow then.

The post IT’S UP TO THE REPUBLICANS TO GET TRUMP THE HELL OUT OF THERE BEFORE HE CAUSES COUNTLESS FATAL DISASTERS, EVEN IF IT TAKES IMPEACHMENT first appeared on Inside The Political Chaos.

Trump picked an avid anti-vaxxer, RFK Jr., to run America’s Health Department. He grossly exaggerates — even invents — the side effects of proven vaccines, and is bent on limiting their use.

His lawyer petitioned the government to revoke its approval of the polio vaccine – a vaccine that protected millions from a virus that paralyzes and kills. He discourages the use of the Covid vaccine with his false claims that they cause autism, even though unvaccinated adults were 97 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than fully vaccinated. According to the Center for Disease Control the death rate among the vaccinated is 5 times lower than among the unvaccinated.

And don’t think this will never happen. Trump announced that he’ll “let RFK Jr. go wild on health … and medicines,” which will allow him

to, as he’s promised, purge entire groups from the Health Department if necessary to realize his agenda.

Donald Trump Jr., warned that Elon Musk will finance a primary against any Republican that won’t confirm his nominees. So they have a choice: stay obedient to their lord and master or be complicit in the predictable sickness and death that JFK Jr’s dangerous actions will cause.

The post Trump’s Pick to Run Health Department first appeared on Inside The Political Chaos.

Trump picked RFK Jr. to head the Department of Health and Human Services. He’s not a doctor and has no medical training. Worse, he’s an avid anti-vaxxer who grossly exaggerates the side effects of Covid vaccines and discourages their use even though the unvaccinated are 68 times more likely to die from COVID than the fully vaccinated. RFK Jr. also vowed to purge entire departments at HSS if necessary to employ his priorities. And he won’t stop with Covid. He discouraged the use of measles vaccines during an outbreak in Samoa, and 83 people died. In 2023, UNICEF reported a 30 percent decline in confidence in childhood vaccines in South Africa after the Covid-19 pandemic. It was the world’s “largest sustained backslide in childhood immunization in 30 years.” UNICEF blamed the “growing access to misleading information. If Trump’s spineless Republican Senators confirm RFK, Jr. they will be knowingly complicit in the deaths and diseases resulting from Trump’s and RFK, Jr’s knowing and pernicious actions.

The post RFK Jr.’s Appointment to Lead HHS: A Dangerous Gamble with Public Health first appeared on Inside The Political Chaos.

Remember that Donald Trump Jr. warned “we want people in the cabinet who don’t think that they know better than the duly elected president of the United States.” So Trump found climate change denier Lee Zeldin to head the EPA. who received the worst score of the entire New York delegation to the League of Conservation Voters.

Mr. Baron is an attorney who has represented many institutions involved in the international markets and advised various parts of the federal government on economic issues.

The Supreme Court’s majority would be more accurately described as “Trump’s Majority.” They started the year with a holding that perverted the Constitution to hold that only Congress, and not the states, may bar a candidate from running under the disqualifications listed in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which disqualifies anyone who’s engaged in insurrection. The holding degraded disqualification under Section 3 to a political decision. Now, any insurrectionist whose party can raise a majority vote in Congress can be President. The more rational holding legally would have been to affirm Colorado’s decision that Trump is an insurrectionist and thus ineligible to be President. The court blew an opportunity to mitigate the anxiety and distrust infecting the country.

The justices noted but didn’t disagree with two Colorado courts’ factual findings that Trump had “engaged in insurrection.” SCOTUS had previously held that a state court’s factual findings must be accepted by federal courts unless they’re clearly erroneous. No factual error was found. Yet SCOTUS chose to let a judicially determined insurrectionist run for President.

To justify this decision, the majority relied on Section 5 of the 14th Amendment, which provides “Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article,” which Congress has not done. But it is Section 3, not Section 5, of the 14th Amendment of that gives Congress the power to ban from or restore candidates to state ballots by a two-thirds vote by removing a disqualification. Inexplicably, the majority held that Section 3 merely “reinforces” Section 5, which empowers Congress to “prescribe” how determinations of eligibility should be made.

Curiously, the word “prescribe” is nowhere in Section 5. The majority opinion’s focus on Section 5 constitutes an end-run around Section 3. It’s common sense that the more demanding exercise of power (a two-thirds vote) would replace — not “reinforce” — the easier one (a simple majority). As the Court’s minority’s opinion put it, “It is hard to understand why the Constitution would require a Congressional supermajority to remove a disqualification if a simple majority could nullify Section 3’s operation.”

Although there was no dissent, the minority accused the majority of being gratuitous in an attempt to insulate Trump and all other insurrectionists from future challenges to their eligibility for federal office.

This was just one Supreme Court holding that stretched the Constitution to protect Trump. Here are others that are equally or more egregious

Donald Trump trashed the Biden and Harris response to hurricane Helene claiming “There’s nobody that’s handled a hurricane or storm worse than what they’re doing right now.”

Hurricane Helene left a trail of destruction across North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida.

President Biden and Harris reacted by deploying 1,000 soldiers to support search and rescue operations and deliver essential commodities to the states, and had FEMA ship over 8.5 million meals, more than 7 million liters of water, 150 generators, and over 220,000 tarps to aid response efforts

Biden also sent more than 4,800 personnel from the federal workforce to support state response efforts. And the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) established medical treatment sites at hospitals in North Carolina.

Restoring Power and Communications

Federal efforts to restore power cut the number of outages by 65% from its peak of 4.6 million. FEMA, the FCC, and private telecommunications providers are establishing temporary cell sites to allow roaming.

Financial Assistance

President Biden has approved Major Disaster declarations for North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Virginia, allowing individuals to apply for FEMA assistance.

Trump Tries to Capitalize Politically from Helene by Claiming Biden gets Poor Reviews

Yet Donald Trump is seeking to capitalize politically on the devastation by falsely claiming that Biden and Harris “are universally being given POOR GRADES for the way that they’re handling the Hurricane, especially in North Carolina.”

Trump’s wrong. Biden’s response to the hurricane has received bipartisan praise from political leaders in affected states. Trump lied that Georgia GOP Gov. Kemp couldn’t get Biden on the phone, though Kemp said that he had already spoken to Biden.

Praise from Republican governors

Republican governors in the states hit by Helene praised Biden’s response. Republican South Carolina Gov. McMaster said federal assistance had “been superb,” noting that Biden and Transportation Secretary Buttigieg called and told him to let them know whatever the state needed. “So we’re getting assistance, and we’re asking for everything we need,” said McMaster.

Republican Virginia Gov. Younkin said “I’m incredibly appreciative of the rapid response and the cooperation from the federal team at FEMA.” He specifically thanked Biden, among others, in a press release.

Republican Tennessee Gov. Lee said the response to his emergency declaration “was quick from the federal government.” At a Tuesday press conference, Lee spoke of a “rush” of federal officials to local emergency management agencies, local officials said, with tears in their eyes.

One would think that, if there ever were ever a time for bipartisan support of an all-out effort to help victims of a devastating multi-state disaster, as from the destruction caused by hurricane Helene, it would be now; but shamefully, not for Donald Trump.

The post Biden Administration Shines in Hurricane Helene Response Amid Trump Criticism first appeared on Inside The Political Chaos.
